What is Yoga?

Most people would picture a physically fit & flexible white-skinned woman contorting her body in a posture. It’s mostly thought of as an exercise routine, a trendy hobby and even as an escape from the chaos of society.

But at its roots, Yoga is simply the ability to calm the mind. As shared in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, “yogascittavrittinirodhah”--yoga happens when we can quiet the mind and sustain this without getting distracted.

Often, some people would say that they cannot do Yoga because either they are not flexible or because they have physical limitations.

Yoga does not discriminate. Everyone can come into Yoga whoever you are, wherever you come from, whatever you do and however you look like. If you want to be more peaceful and calm, Yoga is for you.
